Business Challenge

California State University hiring committees must follow consistent recruitment procedures while complying with university policies, collective bargaining agreements, confidentiality requirements, and equitable hiring practices. Committee members often have varying levels of hiring experience, making standardized training essential to reduce errors, ensure compliance, and support an efficient recruitment process.

Learning Solution

I designed and developed a comprehensive self-paced e-learning course that guides committee members through every stage of the CHRS Recruiting process, from committee eligibility and application screening through interviewing, reference checks, candidate recommendations, and closing the search. The course combines policy guidance, system procedures, and practical recommendations into a structured learning experience that prepares committee members before they receive access to applicant materials.

Project Highlights

  • Structured a complex end-to-end recruitment workflow into logical learning modules.
  • Simplified university hiring policies and procedural requirements for non-HR participants.
  • Integrated compliance topics including confidentiality, unconscious bias training, and equitable hiring practices.
  • Explained CHRS Recruiting workflows alongside supporting collaboration tools such as Google Shared Folders.
  • Reinforced proper documentation standards for applicant evaluations and hiring decisions.
  • Included guidance for interview preparation, reference checking, and committee deliberations.
  • Supported consistent hiring practices across multiple university departments.

Impact

The course provided a standardized onboarding experience for recruitment committee members, helping ensure that every participant understood their responsibilities before reviewing applicant materials. By presenting policies and procedures in a consistent format, the training reduced uncertainty, promoted equitable evaluation practices, and improved adherence to university hiring requirements.

The learning solution also supported Human Resources by reducing repetitive procedural questions, encouraging proper use of the CHRS Recruiting system, and reinforcing accurate documentation throughout the recruitment lifecycle. The result was a more efficient, compliant, and consistent hiring process across the institution.
